When it comes to college life, the adjustment is unbelievable. You are not only going from a home where you were likely almost completely taken care of to a more independent sphere, but you are also probably adapting to the different study atmosphere of college. While studying for high school exams was fairly simple, with continued review, college exams become a blur of exam materials, study guides, study skills and you just don’t even know where to begin.
While many students got used to skating through their high school years, that technique just doesn’t do the job once you are in a competitive college environment.
The first thing to keep in mind when developing new and better study skills is the fact that you can’t study what you don’t know. You must first listen in your classes and take good notes. If all you have at the end of the semester is the study guides, you will be lost. You must first learn the material before you can review it. And, don’t just write it down once and be done with it.
Because most college courses only have one major exam per semester, you will want to constantly read over your notes and exam materials to keep it fresh in your memory.
