The Project Management Institute or PMI In today's fast paced business times, projects are growing in numbers drastically. The pool of people  however, with credentialed talents as professionals are not keeping its pace. It is predicted that in the year 2013, there will be a shortage of 6 million skilled professionals. In addition,  most workers participating in different business projects are not certified and are not prefessionally recognized as having a formal training on how to execute or manage projects effectively and efficiently. Therefore, the demand for skilled project managers is increasing and is at the urgent level. The PMI, short for the Project Management Institute helps the project manager and professionals by providing support and encouragement to pursue a balance of the local and global practices, and offers credential application and maintainance as a proof of formality of expertise of one's skills.

 

How to Get Certified by the PMI as a Project Management Professional

 

The PMI's credential and professional development opportunities are a good path for the business professionals to gain a good start and build, or if not further advance their careers in project, programs, and portfolio development as well as  management. Here is how to apply. First, complete and application form which takes a litlle time depending on the amont of details necessary for credential eligibility. The application is done online fpor faster processing. There area also a printable version of application forms available however, if it is opted to be mailed in to the office of PMI instead. This application form serves as a slot for an exam and is to be scheduled  within one year, as its eligibility period.

 

After the application, an examination has to be passed. The examination varies depending on the information given and the applicability to the specific project and profession. After passing the examination, and it is a job wel done, then he is now a PMI credential holder. He is not required to participate in the CCR or Continuing Certification Requirements Program.The whole cycle of CCR begins the day of passing the exam and/or the multi rater assessment and expires at exactly three years after.

To adhere to the  CCR program, a patricipation in several development activities for the professionals, where PDUs or professional development units will be earned. These PDUs are used to quanitify the approved professional development activities he participated on. One PDU is equivalent to a productive 60 minutes or approximately one hour spent in a purposeful , structured and planned professional development  activity.
