All things that are the least bit complicated need competent testing before use. Software is no different. You can become one of those people who do this job. Read on to find out more about becoming a Certified Software Tester.
The organization to focus on for your certification is called the "Quality Assurance Insitute" or QAI. They were established in 1980 in the United States in the state of Florida. Their chief operating officer is Tom Ticknor.
This job is not for everyone. If you are not detail-minded, ( this is another way to say "organized" ) you will not be interested in this job. You will need to provide a strong focus and determined willpower to maintain the effort needed for this job. If this is not something you like, it may be time to bail out before you lose valuable time in your life. You have specific gifts that pertain to your personality type. If you do not follow them you will end up being less than happy with your life.
If you do happen to be a person who thrives on focus and attention to detail, a certification and eventual job in software testing awaits you.
The first level of your certification will begin with quality assurance. This first level is called the "Certified Software Associate" or "CAST". You will need to meet at least one of the prerequisites below for this level. They are :
If you have one of these requirements you will be able to begin the process of getting certified. This will be where you learn why the attention to quality is important. You will be able to cover the three main topics of quality in information services as well as other basic topics to begin.
The next step is to use the initial application with the QAI global institute. A customer portal has been created for this purpose online. Before you submit your initial application you will need to read the software testing "Common Body of Knowledge". You will need to know about principles and concepts of software testing, building situations to accomplish software testing, and more. You will even begin to learn about new technologies in this first level. Security will be a prime focus as well as execution of the test plan. Your initial application fee will be two hundred dollars. This fee is not refundable and can not be transferred. It must be paid in US dollars.
If you pass and get certified you will be able to advance to higher levels of software testing. After the associate level comes the "Certified Software Tester" or "CSTE" level.
In this level you will need to demonstrate the mastery of Quality Control and Testing. This level builds on the last level but you can enter this level if you fulfil prerequisites similar to the CAST level. A simple way to figure out if you have what it takes is to remember that you will need six years of hands on experience in the information services sector. Equivalent school experience would mean a four year degree plus two years hands on experience. One specific prerequisite to this level is that you must be currently working at a job in the information services category. The initial application is going to cost $350 dollars without the CBOK book and accompanying CD. The application fee goes up to $420 with those two items included. Again, the fee is not transferable and not refundable.
There is a last level of becoming a manager of those who have obtained the previous two levels. You will need eight years of real-world experience if you would like to form a ballpark figure of how much time you will need before you are eligible for this level. The mananger level is the CMST or "Certified Manager of Software Testing".
Pursue your dreams in the Information Age. Things are only going to be heating up more in this era and preparing for it is not only smart, but safe.
