If you want to become certified as a pilot there are multiple schools to attend. It is ironic that people who learn to fly planes go to schools called "ground schools". They are anything but this. To travel in the air with the latest contraptions man has created means getting a license from a government agency. They step into everything and flying machines in the air is no different. You have private pilot certfications, sport pilot certifications, hot air balloon certification ( if you like that sort of thing ), commercial pilot certifications and more. You no doubt already know what type of aircraft you want to be flying, so pick one that suits you.
You will be assigned certain privilege levels to be able to fly a certain type of machine. An aircraft that does not have wings will of course have a different privilege level from one that does. If you are beginning as a student pilot, you will not initially have categories or class ratings. Instead they are allowed to fly certain planes by their instructor.
You will also need to study to obtain "type ratings". These ratings are to advance and define your experience. Your type ratings are given by the local authority under which you operate. In many countries type ratings are not necessary for those who only fly single engine aircraft. Ratings can get complicated. You have things called "instrument ratings", "multi engine ratings", "class ratings" and more. If you do not have an instrument rating you may be restricted to something called a "limitation reading".
The first thing to do is sign up for a pilot "ground school". Some schools provide all their books online.
The second thing to do is to joing a flying club. A flying club can give you the necessary backup you need if you happen to get doubts about your goals for flying. Talk to as many pilots as you can. Elect a CFI ( Certified Flying Instructor ) that fits your personaly type. You will be spending hours with him or her in the air.
After ground school comes flight training. If you are not good on theory, you may want to brush up on it before or during these classes. Fligh trainin is about one third theory, so you will need to have a sharp mind and creative abilities to pass this section of your certification. You will be flying aircraft at subsonic speeds. You will be flying them at less than one thousand feet. You will fly close to the ground, as close as one hundred feet above objects.
If you can find a flight simulator, you will be doing yourself a favor. Software can mimic the details of real flight with screens and seats that make you feel like you are in a real plane. Since using the real thing involves using petrol, it is also cheaper to use a flight simulator. Good luck with your flight lessons and your certification.
