There has been an unfavorable outcome on the availability of nurses lately. A shortage has caused even more problems in the Western world. You can lend a hand and be one of those that make a positive difference in the lives of those who need their health improved. In the United States, you will find a Board of Nursing in every state. You will find out some important and helpful information from them and maybe even some guidance.
You have other levels that are prerequisites to becoming a Registered Nurse. The Nurses´s Assistant level and the Licensed Practical Nurse ( LPN ) are levels to attain before you will be rewarded with the level of Registered Nurse. What you will need to do is to either start working in a hospital as a nursing assistant or attend school. Either way you will have an examination called the "NCLEX® Examination" to pass. This is a comprehensive test that covers everything about the job. Here is a small list :
The list above is incomplete. To get approved to take the exam you will need an application for a nursing license from the state board of nursing of your state. This group will determine if you have the credentials to be allowed to take the test. If you are approved you will be able to take the test after paying a two hundred dollar fee. The NCELX exam is administered by computer. This allows the examiner to discover your level of competence. You will have at least seventy five questions to answer. If you are applying for the level of LPN you will have at least eighty five questions. As you take the test the computer is analyzing your answers. You may need to answer more than seventy five ( or eighty five, as the case may be ) until the computer has enough information about you to gauge your skill level. Once your competence is known by the computer the test will end. You have five hours for the exam. This includes two breaks. Your results will be mailed to you in about four weeks.
After being certified and beginning your job, you can expect to make about $65,000 dollars a year in the United States. Your job outlook will be excellent, according to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics. You will be working long hours helping those who have fallen into bad health or have had health emergencies.
