If you want to become a real fireman, you need to start early in life. You will probably not be allowed to start if you are younger than eighteen. If you are in New York you also must be under the age of twenty nine. You can retire as a fireman from your local district in twenty years or just a little less. The Civil Service Exam is going to be required for most people who want to become a fireman. This is a test that is approximately three hours in length. Depending on the state you want to work in there may or may not be a study guide for the exam. The minimum score will be 70%. If you have prior military experience ( firefighter or not ) you may get this experience added to your score on the exam. Your job will be similar to an EMT or Emergency Medical Technician. You will need medical training. If you have it already that will be a plus for you getting certified as a fireman. Studying building codes in your part of the world will also help you to be approved.
