The digital world is changing fast and to keep up you need a job connected with something that is going to be around for at least a little while. Video Games are definitely in this category. They are going to be around for a long time. Read on to find out how to get certified as a video game developer.
You already like video games. Why not get paid to do something you like to do ? You play these nearly every day but did you ever think about who might have made the game ? If you are still in high school, get started while you are young. Start taking math classes such as linear algebra, geometry and trigonometry. If you need to, take calculus later, after you are working at your job. If your high school offers physics classes, take them also. Your animations will need to operate within the normal laws of physics, so this class is necessary. If you are no good at art, do not fret. You can take art classes while you are young, but you really need to have the gift of drawing if you are going to be creating graphics. There exists plenty of other pre-made graphics for animation in video games. You do not need to know how to draw or have a gift in art, but it would help.
You will be learning a computer language. You will most likely be learning C++. C++ is a natural language to be used with video games because of its characteristics. It is a OOP language, which is the acronym for saying it is an; "Object Oriented Programming" language. You do not have to wait to graduate from high school to learn this language. There are plenty of free lessons online for you to learn. If you want to buy a book, get "Object-Oriented Programming in Microsoft C++" by Robert LaFore.
The last thing you need to do is to study your career field. Buy video games that are popular and find out why they are popular. Find out what language they are created in and then see if you can improve on them. Learn the industry and put your knowledge to work. If you are interested in starting up your company, you will need to know your competition.
After your high school years, seek out colleges such as DeVry University. They have specialized courses in Game and Simulation Programming. They offer a Bachelor´s degree in this area. It will last for eight full semesters and give you 137 credit hours. You may choose from online or offline classes to suit your schedule. Michigan State University ( msu.edu ) also offers this class. They call it; "Game and Simulation Design". It should be an exciting class if you truly love video games.
You should concentrate on the following details :
- Graphics
- Gameplay programming
- nNtworking
- Playstation 3 coding
- Xbox 360 coding
- Engine programming
This will give you the basics to move on. Once you have regular Xbox and Playstation experience, you can move on to mobile devices.
