How To Become A Certified Radiation Therapy Technologist

Health issues are growing in the Western societies and are not going to level off soon. Getting certified as a radiation therapist is a route to a secure job future.
Since the medical industry admits that they do not know the primary cause of cancer, radiation therapy will continue to be attempted to try and control cancer. This is where the radiation therapist comes into view. A radiation therapist applies high doses of radiation to those who have been diagnosed with cancer. This is supposed to destroy or limit the growth of cancer. The projected annual salary of a radiation therapist is about $48,000 dollars for a person with less than one year of experience.
The best advice to those wishing to get a career in this field is to start early. Beginning in high school with the advanced courses in math and science will no doubt help you to obtain a career as a radiation therapist. A next step will be to learn a radiologic technology program. This may be offered at a high school similar to other technical jobs. Technical schools would be the first place to look. If you are a nurse, you may qualify if you are trained in radiation physics.
If you can not find a technical school for this task, look at community colleges. There are probably hundreds of community colleges that offer this course. Some will require you to be ARRT certified before you will be able to take their courses. The certificate you will receive will be called something similar to; "Certificate of Completion in Radiation Therapy".
The ARRT is a super sized organization that accredits the certfications of radiation therapists. They are an important group that have been helping radiation technicians for years.
They provide testing and in some states they are a required prerequisite for working as a radiation technician. Ohio is one such state.
After acheving all of the above you may then start to work at a hospital. Seek out larger towns unless you have previous knowledge that a smaller town has a higher rate of cancer or other medical problems that can be alleviated by radiation therapy. One of the important things to consider is the current political atmosphere of trying to "socialize" medicine. This will supposedly control costs. This will in turn hold down the salaries of those who work as radiation therapists and other individuals in the medical industry. It will of course make you pay larger taxes, so you as a worker in the medical industry will receive the proverbial; "double whammy". Nevertheless, the Western world does not know how to take care of their own health and you can benefit from this lack of knowledge by becoming a certified as a radiation therapist.
