The health of many in the Western world is decreasing. The average citizen does not know much about taking care of their own health and therefore are turning to the medical industry in higher numbers. You have probaly heard that those with diabetes many times develop a problem with their kidneys. Since more and more people refuse to eat a regular healthy diet in the Western world, this situation is more than likely going to increase in numbers. You as a Dialysis Technician can help those whose kidneys have taken a turn for the worse thanks to their lack of knowledge and lack of concern for their health.
The first step to getting certified is to find a vocational school that has the courses in Dialysis techniques and procedures you are looking for. You may also go the route of becoming a nurse first. This has been proven to take a longer amount of time and is not necessary in the first place. The good news is that before you get your certification as a Dialysis Technician, you may be able to work as one. If you live in the United States, you have some states that do not have clear-cut regulations about this job. Some states do have regulations in place. Whichever is true for you will be what you are covered by.
Just because there is no set state regulation for your state does not mean there is not a nationally recognized institution to help you. The "National Nephrology Certification Organization" ( ptcny.com ) is available to help with their version of a national certification.
Learning anatomy and physiology is a requirement for holding a job as a Dialysis Technician. You should also have a High School Diploma. You will need to learn Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation ( CPR ) and first aid. You will need to know how to assess a patient. You will need to have a handle on operating dialysis equipment.
