If not, the medical industry will continue to expand, thanks to the standard American diet and lifestyle. For this reason a vision therapist job should be a secure career for the next few years. A vision therapist is a person who helps an opthamologist or optometrist to do their work. They do not do surgery, but help with crossed eyes, lazy eye, double vision and other eye problems. To consider a job in this field high school is necessary. Taking the required biology classes and getting high grades in them will help you in the next few stages of learning. If you can not finish high school, you may be able to get by with a GED. A GED is a popularly recognized substitute for a diploma from a high school.
At or near your graduation from high school, you may be able to get a job working at an optometrist´s office. Being good at typing and handling computers will be a common skill at this stage. Once you are there, or even before you are hired, tell the doctor you will be working for that you plan on becoming a vision therapist. It is good to choose a person to work for who is a board certified optometrist.

In this day and age it is common to look online for "study groups" but do not forget that "regular" groups may be able to help also. If you live near Boulder Colorado this will be true for you. If not, take a look around or ask people in your community about study groups for vision therapists.
If you can not find a Vision office to work for, you can always choose the other route. Schools of nursing are available in many places. Sign up for one of these and get a degree there. Some vision therapists just get a degree in psychology and end up working for an optometrist. In this case, any college or undergraduate study will suffice.
If this is not an option you can take advantage of, there are "Vision Training Institutes" that offer the training specifically needed for a therapist of vision. Whether you choose to simply start working for a certified optometrist or take the unpaid route, you should be ready to give excellent vision information to help those who have problems with their eyes.
