Getting Certified As A Black Belt In The Martial Arts

Submitted by: TigerEye

You have no doubt noticed that most places are getting more dangerous. Most of the Western world and their governments are abandoning the time tested positive effects of the right to bear arms. This has proven to raise the violent crime levels in those countries. Learn to defend yourself with your own personal abilities by obtaining a certification in the Martial Arts.

If you have even the smallest interest in learning the ancient art of self defense do not hesitate to satiate this desire with a few lessons. Many of your local Martial Arts teachers offer a few free classes, so you can get a taste of what the Martial Arts world is like.

One of the first things to ask yourself is what form of self defense you want to learn. Some require more stringent physical exertion and have a large impact on the joints and limbs. Some are more gentle and use the weight or the motion of the attacker against them. The dangerous situations you believe you will be entering and your physical abilities should determine where you start. The system of TaeKwonDo is considered to be a "high impact" exertion of your body and uses blows to accomplish the goal of self defense. By contrast, the use of Ai Ki Do is called "low impact" and non-aggressive style of self defense because it does not rely on strength to achieve success. In fact Aikido literally means; "way of peace". The word "TaeKwanDo" is translated to generally mean; "The way of the foot and fist". The "tae" part of the word means to jump or kick with the foot. Other systems can be a blend of these basic methods. Choose the one that is correct for your body and your situation.

Once you decide the above, make your move. Get involved online and offline with groups who are actively pursuing the goals you yourself are pursuing. You will find some of the place online, such as Black Belt International, that offer certification.

When you choose a local school you will need to remember that the requirements for a black belt are pretty much in their hands. The requirements will be up to the owners of the particular school you attend. Martial Arts have traditions that go back for thousands of years and the various lessons have a rich history. This variety will hopefully be exemplified by your teacher´s knowledge and activities.

If you train hard under a personal trainer ( called "sensei" ) you should be able to reach the level of black belt in three years. The amount of time needed to obtain is debated. One year seems to be too small a time. Ten years is way too long. From three to five years has been recommended by using common sense and the logistics of regular business models.

Going through the various colors of belts before you become a black belt is always a gratifying experience. The first color is usually yellow. The second is usually green. You will be learning form and style. The form is defined by the method of Martial Arts you have chosen to learn. The style is taught by your teacher and will probably be modified by him or her and yourself. Once you have your black belt you can get more degrees of a black belt and advance even further.
