How to Become a CISSP? CISSP is short for Certified Information System Security Professional. It is an independent certification for information security being given by the ISC, or the International Information System Security Certification Consortium. In 2004, The CISSP became the first information security credential accreditedby the ANSI ISO/IEC Standard 17024:2003 which dictated the industry's accepatance of this global standard and its requirements. Recently in July 2010, there were approximately sixty seven thousand (67,744 to be exact) members who hold the CISSP certification which involved approximately one hundred and thirty four different countries all over the world.
What are the Requirements and Prodecures?
The CISSP certification process is stirct about the requirements for its candidates.The requirements that should be met are as follows:
1. THe candidate should have a minimum of five years of direct and full time work experience in two or more of the ten ISC information security domains (CBK). However, a year can be waived if there is a diploma of a four year college degree or a master’s degree in Information Security, or for posessing one of the certifications similar in degreecoming from the other related organizations. In case that the five year work experience cannot be met, there is another option. He can earn an Associate of ISC for CISSP designation upon passing the CISSP examination. However, the validity of the certification to be issued will be just for the maximum of six years ,wherein within the time span of validity, the number of required years of experiene remaining should be earned. The examination of the CISSP is a mulitple choice type consisting of 250 questions with the usual four options for the possible answer. The exam lasts over a period of six hours and 25 items within the exam are not considered graded. The passing rate is a score of 700 points and above.
2. Considering that the requirements have already been met and the examination has been passed, the Oath Taking will follow. This event is a symbolism of one's assertion of acceptance of the CISSP Code of Ethics.
3. The candidate is also required to answer questions for background checks, such as the criminal history and other related background questions. After this, the qualifications will have to be endorsed by another CISSP who is of good standing. The endorsement will attest that the assertions of the candidate are true to the best of their knowledge, and that he belongs to the good standing professionals within the information security industry.
