Submitted by: TigerEye

The homes of yesterday were stronger than those made in the more recent years. This means lots of opportunities for those who inspect homes. If you are interested in doing this job, read on to find out a bit more about this certification.

Since home inspection is considered an investment in the home, the credentials of the person doing the inspecting are important. There is more than one agency that oversees the certifying of home inspectors, but one is common. The "American Society of Home Inspectors", or ASHI, is popular in the United States. They are a non profit organization. If you want to look around for other agencies that is fine. The are others such as the Home Inspection Institute of America, located in Wallingford Connecticut, that are available. If you live in the United Kingdom there are other organizations to seek out. A group called the Building Research Establishment or "BRE" is the right place to look. They are similar to the ASHI in Britain. They are not as popular as ASHI. ASHI is the oldest and largest in the United States. Because of this they will be the focus of the rest of this article.

To start your trek to becoming a home inspector, you will complete the course of joinging the ASHI as an Associate. There are no requirements for this phase. This is where you begin your studies. You will be doing inspection reports, verification of these reports and be involved in quite a few home inspections before you are certified. Your training will be comprehensive and efficient. If you have local regulations on home inspection and you want to work in that area you will need to learn the local regulations. If you have some experience in business, this is going to be helpful also. The cost of their complete course is not yet known without first becoming an associate.

Another aspect of becoming certified as a home inspector is the National Home Inspector Exam.

If you live in the United States there are twenty three states that require this exam for you to work in their state. Colorado is not one of those states. There are online preparations to taking this course. They all have varying prices so it is wise to find some testimonials from those who have taken courses and are successfully working as home inspectors.

Here are just a few of the things you will need to learn about on the way to becoming certified:

  • Structures and interiors of roof inspection in home or dwellings
  • Mechanical inspections
  • residential plumbing inspection

Your wages will be around two hundred dollars to just over three hundred dollars. Some inspectors charge five hundred dollars for a single family dwelling. As you can see, your profits will mount quickly after becoming a home inspector. At the same time you may need to use insurance for those unforeseen circumstance that are going to inevitably happen.
