Telecommuting Jobs - Description Salary and Outlook

Submitted by: Kimi

In life as in business, it is always risky simply to assume that people know what you’re talking about. So let me briefly explain what telecommuting is.

In this modern age, very often we now find ourselves based at a workstation, inputting data, or transferring information onto spread sheets etc. Having carried out that particular task in hand we press, ‘Save’ or ‘Send’ or ‘Enter’ or some such other command and then move onto the next task. Most business communications are now done via email. Why then, do we have to get up at ‘Stupid O’clock’, get washed, dressed; sit on a train or a bus, in a traffic jam – when all of the above can be done at home and monitored remotely? This radical change to way we think about ‘going to work’ is a quantum leap.

Where feasible, allowing employees to work from home can have significant advantages all round.

As the employee, providing your workload is completed on time, you can suit your own pace, be available for family commitments, sit outside in the shade with a laptop and wear whatever you like. Whilst doing this, you’re not spending hard earned cash travelling to an office, or paying over the odds for a sandwich etc. There is however always, a down side for some people. Not having the boss keeping a physical eye on you can lead to a lack of motivation. There are a million and one things that you can find that will stop you from getting on with the task in hand. And without the office banter it can be lonely. So it’s not for everyone.

For the employer the obvious advantage is that he doesn’t have to fork out for expensive office space and other facility costs. Surveys show that the absenteeism is reduced. Less time is spent amongst the staff discussing the weather etc.

What are the types of jobs that you can do as a Telecommuter? You’ll probably be surprised at just how many different roles there are available. Perhaps even the one you’re in now?

Here are just some examples:

  • Admin Assistant Data Entry Clerk Web Design Customer Services
  • I.T. Graphics Photography Tutoring
  • Writing Statistician Legal Marketing Consulting
  • Project Management Accounting Call Centres

The salaries that Telecommuters can earn will vary from role to role, just as in the traditional workplace.

Be cautious about tempting remunerations that seem to be too good to be true. Take up references if you can. Any honest and upright company will understand the need for people to be on their guard.

The only real ‘grey’ area is how can I get promoted as a Telecommuter? I’m only a workstation sending work in via the ether? Well, time will tell, but they say the ‘The cream will always rise to the top’.

Given that technological progress is getter yet faster and faster, our ability opportunities to move away from the traditional workplace will become greater as each day goes by.

I love my job as an I.T. specialist so I shared what it takes to become an I.T. expert or pro in any other telecommuting field.
