Job Overview A hotel cannot be a better place to check in if it is not clean and orderly. This aspect of the hotel is being managed by the housekeeping department. Those who are in the executive position in this department area called the hotel executive housekeepers. They direct the operations, control the staff of the department within the hotel to make every corner of the rooms clean, orderly and presentable.

Education, Knowledge and Trainings Required

If you wish to establish a career in being a hotel executive housekeeper, prepare as early as high school by taking subjects in Home Economics, Mathematics Business and Management. These subjects will give you a good background, if not a solid educational foundation for working in this field. The minimum requirement in the post secondary training is a possession of an associate's degree in Administration, Budgeting, Economics and Accounting. However, the best course to finish to get in the job fast is a bachelor's degree in Hotel Management.

Skills and Abilities

As executive housekeepers, the skills that are expected of them are skills in leadership and management. They should be able to strongly direct the activities of the department they are handling so as to achieve the goals specific to housekeeping or maintenance of the cleanliness and orderliness of the hotel. As they also train staff and manage staff, it is a must that communication skills, good interpersonal skills are present in them. A helping and teaching skills will make their subordinates respect them as superiors and be inspired in doing their best in their work.

Duties

As an executive of the housekeepers, their primary duty is to ensure the cleanliness and the orderliness of the hotel.

As such, they are responsible in supervising, coordinating and directing the activities of the housekeeping department of the hotel.They are the ones who also manage the housekeeping team such as the clean up ladies and crews. Included in the job is the determination of the cleaning needs of the different areas of the hotel such as the frequency of cleaning, the types of cleaning, the staff to render the cleaning as well as the need for organization and disinfection of the area. They direct and schedule the cleaning of the rooms, the lobby, the restaurants, the entertainment area to include the pool. They also hire and train staff and do recommendations for promotion, transfers and even dismissals.

The job outlook for this kind of career is expected to move as fast as the average for the other types of professions. The range of salary for a hotel executive housekeeper starts from 23,000 U.S. dollars to around 47,000 U.S. dollars per annum. The factors that affect the salary of the worker include the educational level, the number of years of experience, the location and the employer. Others who are already in the higher supervisory position in the housekeeping department may earn around 79,000 U.S. dollars and over, on a yearly basis.
