Job Description Holistic physicians are medical doctors. They play a very comprehensive role within the medical arena as they serve as a primary care doctor for different types of patients. They should be well knowledgeable and skilled with the many areas of medicine. This is why they should be involved in researching from time to time, and be updated with the latest trends and studies within the medical industry. In contrast with the many natural and holistic healers in holistic clinics, holistic physicians possess a medical license. And in contrast with the traditional physicians and modern physicians nowadays, they focus in the more natural methods ,less invasive and healthier ways of healing.

Education, Knowledge and Trainings Required

Holistic physicians take the same educational degree as those of the other physicians in general.A premedical course, a science course or related to science, should be taken first as a preparatory course to medicine proper. Courses the are preferred include Biology, Psychology, Zoology, Chemistry, Public Health Nursing and the like. After accomplishing a 4 year preparatory course, an exam should be passed to be able to enter a medical school. A medical proper course may take around 4 to 5 years of both classroom and practical instruction. A licensure examination for medicine should be passed to become a registered physician. Programs in "holistic medicine" and related sub-specialties can be taken in any of the teaching hospitals and affiliated universities to be able to learn the skills in holistic medicine.

Skills and Abilities

Holistic physicians should possess a genuine concern for the welfare of their patients. They should have a good helping and teaching skills to those who are in need of their services. As to the actual practice, holistic physicians should see things both broadly or holistically and specifically. Critical thinking and analytical thinking skills are necessary to be able to find out what is wrong with and provide remedies to the patients seeking consult.

They should be adept in the many natural ways of healing and conducting a more natural intervention to the patients.

Duties

Holistic physicians take care of the patients to alleviate symptoms and promote healing just like any traditional doctors do. However, they focus on the root cause of the diseases or health conditions which may even seem to be unrelated to the issue or symptoms the patient has been experiencing before. A good example is the psychological stress which may have caused the patient to have duodenal ulceration. They  assess further, provide both the traditional and holistic management or some alternative techniques such as acupuncture and monitor their patient's response to the treatments given. Psychiatric support is always an integral part of the treatment that they provide.
