Job Description Day care centers will not run without any caregivers to take care of the children entrusted to the centers by their parents. This is the reason that day care center owners hire and invest on they key personnel of their business,the child care workers. Child care workers are employees of these day care centers, infant and pre-school as well as other child care facilities who work for clients from infancy to pre-school aged children. Child care workers or child care providers watch these children aswell as help them hone their age appropritae skills through several educational and phychosocial activites and games while their parents are at work.
Education, Knowledge and Trainings Required
There is no specific educational requirement needed to become one of the child care workers. The skill is the most important and the desire to genuinely take care of the young and relieve the parents from these responsibilities while they are away. A high school diploma will place an applicant at the preference. Courses and subjects such aschild deveopment, psychology of the young child, nutrition, nursing and sociology are helpful in understanding the nature of the job and be able to effectivly work with the younger clients everyday.
Skills and Abilities
As child care workers, they should be skilled in the general care of the infants, the toddlers and the young children whose developmental stage needs are varied. They should be patient and compassionate to their clients and be able to manage tolerate persistence and chaos brought about by the children's nature. They should be trained in communicating with them both in verbal and in non verbal manner so as to facilitate the accomplishment of the activities scheduled everyday. Teaching and helping skills are recommended in pursuing this career as well.
Duties
As a professional child care worker, he/she is responsible in ensuring the safety and security of the children that they take care of. Another responsbility of being child care workers is to ensure that in every activity that they do, they are providing them quality care and safety to these youngsters.
They also help them develop the necessary skills that they should learn at a certain stage of life by assisting the teachers and center coordinators in developing and implementing the learning activities that the children should be involved in. For the babies, they make sure that they are fed on time, get stimulated by their surroundings and cleaned or diappered whenever necessary. For the toddlers and pre-school children, they have to make sure that their gross motor abilites and fine motor skills are continuously being developed in addition to the disclipine in toileting and playing with their playmates. They may also facilitate teaching them skills in communication and reasoning.
Job Outlook and Earnings
The income for a childcare woker is dependent on the educational level, the size and type of employer as well as the number of children handled and the location of practice. The median annual income of a child care worker points to around 16,950 U.S. dollars per annum. The employment growth is also expected to increase as fast as the average as the turnover rate for this career is also fast due to a lower rate of salary.
