Job Overview The most successful and famous amusement park is the Disneyland. Amusement parks continue to give excitement and fun to people. It is a place where family can bond and enjoy together. Amusement park workers ensure smooth operations by performing job assigned to them. Ride operators, game attendants, animal handlers, concessionaires, ride attendants, food concession attendants, gift shop attendants, security workers, performers and artists are different workers in an amusement park.

Education,Knowledge and Trainings Required

Every summer, high school students who are at least 16 years old are given opportunity to earn their income by working in an  amusement park. Mathematics, Speech, Theater, Mechanics and Industrial Arts are classes which develop skills of an individual to be able to work in a park. On-the-job trainings are given for at least a week or two for those applying for game booth attendant, ride operator and fast food worker. Applicants are also trained and educated about the rules and regulations of the park and they are also given guidelines on grooming and behavior. For those who are aiming for a managerial position, employers prefer college graduates. Applicants can major in Marketing, Performance Arts, Business Management and Recreation.
 

Skills and Abilities

Amusement park workers should be friendly, courteous and enthusiastic. They will be interacting with different people so they need to be patient.

Communication skills are essential to be able to explain the rules and regulations of the amusement park to the customers  and assist them better.

Duties

The duties and responsibilities of amusement park workers depend on the department or task they are assigned to do. Ride operators are responsible in monitoring the speed of the ride and maintaining the rides like refueling engines, painting, and replacing light bulbs. Those who are assigned to collect fares and tickets are ride attendants. They also ensure the safety of the passengers by making sure that rides are locked in before it starts. Animal handlers make sure that animals are fed and cared for. Pizza, hot dogs, ice cream, chips, cotton candy, lemonade and popcorn are sold by food concession attendants. Souvenir booth and gift shops are maintained by gift shop attendants by making sure that stocks are complete and items are priced. Entertainment is one of the reason why people love to go to amusement parks. Performers like musicians, singers and dancers are engaged in comedy shows and parades in the park. During operations, security workers are assigned to roam around and maintain peace and order in the park.
 

Earnings and Job Outlook

Most amusement park workers are getting a minimum wage. Their income depends on the size of the facility and the task that they are assigned to do. Managers can earn around $10,0000 to $64,000. Since most jobs in an amusement park is seasonal, applicants have more opportunities to be hired as a worker. Some performers work in an amusement park as a stepping stone for a career in the showbusiness and entertainment industry.
