If you are a new student of geometry, you should have a system in place whereby you can study effectively and practically. Your life is made up of years which are made up of days which are made up of hours which are made up of minutes. Saving precious time is a worthy goal to achieve because it is your life. You can save time by setting up a plan of action that is realistic and efficient.
The first step is to determine if you have a gift of languages. Math is simply a language of numbers. If you have a strong desire to learn geometry, algebra and other math languages, you probably have a gift of learning them also. If not, you may want to consider a different line of study.
Studying the text of the geometry is needful. Study the problem without leaving out words. Pay close attention to undefined terms and definitions. When you run across a definition make a drawing to help visualize the problem. Also try to define the definition in your own words. When you run across a postulate or theorem you should reread until you comprehend the statement. Make a drawing to help visualize the postulate. Create flash cards ( index cards ) for every important postulate, term or theorem.
Treat textbook examples with the same care but this time see if you can repeat the examples from the book without looking at them. When you arrive at the completed example notice the order of the "statements" and the "reasons". Read the statements and apply them in a backwards direction. That is, read the whole example in reverse, noting how the results were achieved. Keep track of a group of methods that achieve a specific goal. Look in the appendix of the textbook for references of theorems and postulates.
Do your homework ! Do the required assignments and learn completely from them. They are for your benefit. If one is too hard to solve go to an easier one. You may just discover how to solve a harder problem from a simpler one. You should work by yourself at first with geometry. If you are having a tough time learning, and feel defeated, seek the help of a tutor or a classmate. If this does not help you must again try on your own.
Write down all the postulates, definitions and theorems when preparing for an exam. They are hopefully included in the study materials for the exam. In the textbook, study the chapter summaries and do the review exercises. Again, they are for your benefit so make good use of them. Repeat any that give you major problems over and over until they are easy for you to solve. If you need to form a study group to realize the benefits of like minds go ahead and do so. It may just be the key to your success.
Lastly, attend all classes. You can not expect to get through something like geometry while you are skipping classes. Take an interest in your own future and not only attend classes, but show up a bit early and ask the teacher questions. If the instructor has tutoring classes take advantage of them. They have the knowledge you need. Learning requires a good attitude. Keeping a good attitude during your geometry studies is worthwhile because it will help you to obtain the goal you are seeking.
