How To Become Certified In Computer Forensics

The digital age came after the information age and the digital war has been on for quite a few years now. Who will win ? If you are interested in computer security and tracking down the bad guys, take a look at getting certified in computer forensics, also called "data discovery".

Computer forensics is about finding out about the weaknesses and forced intrusions ( illegal entry ) in the world of computers. You can also apply this information to cell phones and PDA´s or smartphones. There are a number of available and recognized certifications in the world of computer forensics. The first is the IACRB´s certified computer forensics examiner or CCFE. The IACRB is a not-for-profit organization that exists solely to certify individuals in the art of computer security. IACRB stands for "Information Assurance Certification Review Board". They prepare individuals for the certifications in the following areas:
- Data Recovery Professional
- Security Analyst
- Reverse Engineer
- Certified Computer Forensics Examiner
- Ethical Hacker ( also called "Penetration Tester" )
- Exploit developer ( expert "Penetration Tester" )
- Application Security Specialist
The IACRB develops exams and helps employers ensure that their workers are qualified to do the highly technical job of computer forensics.
The next group is the ISFCE. This is the "International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners". They are a private organization that is privately owned and pride themselves in providing what they call "unblemished" certifications in computer forensics. They claim to be able to do this at a fair price. They also claim to have certified over a thousand people as of this writing. They operate in twenty eight countries. They give a certification in something called the "CCE". This is an acronym for "Certified Computer Examiner". The end result of getting your CCE is to further the field of computer forensics. The CCE certificaion is given based on the knowledge and skills of the one seeking to become a digital forensics practitioner. This course is only available as a home-study course. There are no public classes to attend for a CCE. You do not have to be involved in law enforcement to take the CCE exam.
Moving on, after you get your certification you will be able to work for such agencies as the FBI or other local law enforcement departments that deal with digital discovery. Your computer abilities will expand to include things you never dreamed you could do with a computer. If you become federally certified you will have a vast selection of opportunities to choose from. You can get a job in a large department or business. You can work for investigation agencies or start your own personal business locating files that prove the culpability of other people.
